Why I Switched to Natural Deodorant
I’ll be honest, joining in on the natural deodorant craze didn’t sound that appealing at first. I live in South Florida and between running after my toddler and training clients all day, I sweat all day. There is just no way to avoid it, my business is Sweat the Stress! I’ve heard the aluminium found in most deodorants can have negative effects and can be linked to cancer (although I don’t believe there is conclusive evidence of that link yet) and that is concerning but what really made me switch was the reaction I started having to regular deodorant. Something in it started to bother my skin and I developed a rash that became itchy and uncomfortable. At first, I brushed it aside thinking it will get better. It was convenient since I still had a whole stick left but that was not the best approach (lesson learned – always listen to your body when something just doesn’t feel right).
After showing my sister, she told me I needed to get on the natural deodorant train immediately (it was a little sister knows best moment)! So after looking up a few recipes to get ideas, we made our own deodorant from scratch. It was super simple and luckily I happened to have all the ingredients. Just mix them all together and start applying!
I noticed immediate relief from the itching and within a couple of weeks, the rash was gone! I only used a little bit each day (it’s all you need) and made it a point to let my underarms breath more often without anything. Surprisingly, I didn’t notice a huge difference in smell after switching. I mean yes, it wasn’t the pretty smelling fragrance of regular deodorant, but it wasn’t as awful as I thought it would be. I went into it knowing I may be a little extra smelly so maybe it was all mindset but it was so worth it to eliminate the irritation! Once everything fully cleared up, I gave Native natural deodorant a try and I’m liking that one as well. I’m excited to try a few others so if you have any recommendations please leave them in the comments below! If you’ve been debating on switching, definitely give it a try! The less chemicals & toxins we put on our bodies, the better.
